One of our wonderful parents visited the children in Nursery to tell them about his job as a Paramedic (EMT). The chn learnt that he drove an ambulance and helped people who were unwell or hurt. They saw some of his medical equipment such as a stethoscope, a pulse oximeter and a skin marker pen.
The children were really interested in the drivers license that a Paramedic has. They wanted to make their own to use in their role play. This was a good opportunity to develop fine motor skills using scissors and pens. One child, whose dad was the Paramedic, independently made EMT epaulettes!
It sparked a lot of conversation: “I seen an ambulance” “I see a police car” “I went to the hospital” “My daddy is driving a fire engine and a bus” “I was a baby in my mummy’s tummy and my mummy had to go to hospital” “I cough” “The ambulance is so fast” “My heart is beeping” “I cut my finger”
