Learning to communicate

Outdoor Learning

The children collected sticks from around the Nursery garden for our first fire bowl this year. The made fresh dough which they wound around the sticks before cooking them over the fire. The bread was yummy to eat on a chilly November morning.

Nigerian chin-chin cookies!

To mark the end of term, families joined the children and staff to sing our core rhymes and songs. We sang Incy Wincy Spider, It’s A Rainbow and Kalo Sile (a Nigerian song about being hungry). The children made Nigerian chin-chin cookies to share. Wishing everyone a happy break.

Dads are cooking!

Today one of our dads cooked rice and black beans with plantain for the children to try. It is a dish eaten in Mexico & is influenced by the food of the indigenous peoples of Mexico and also Africa. Many of the children recognised the ingredients from home.

Learning ‘Kalo Sile’ – a Nigerian song

Our core song this fortnight is ‘Kalo Sile’ a Nigerian song about wanting something to eat. The children have been learning the words and tune and tapping out the beat on their legs. They have also enjoyed playing percussion instruments.

We would like to give you a warm welcome to The Grove Nursery School. We pride ourselves on being a small setting with a very big heart!  We have lots of exciting activities for children and families, including our Nursery School for children aged 2-5 years.

We have a long history of working closely with families in our community in supporting children in their early years. We hope you find the website useful and that it gives you an insight into life at The Grove.

We have a particular view about learning at The Grove Nursery School. We believe that everyone learns best when they feel happy, relaxed, safe and secure. We aim to provide a rich learning environment where play is recognised as vital for development.

We want children to feel excited about learning. We believe that children, parents, carers and staff all have a role in promoting the ‘four Cs’ – curiosity, confidence, co-operation and creativity.

We want your child to feel happy and relaxed so that they are in the best position to take advantage of the learning opportunities we offer.
