Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND)

The Grove Nursery School offers fully inclusive provision and we welcome children with disabilities and special educational needs. We recognise that all children are individuals and unique and we aim to provide appropiate support so that all children have equal opportunites to learn and access our curriculum.

Children will receive different levels of SEN/D support to meet their needs and this support may be gradually increased or decreased over time as children’s needs change.  Most support is given within the nursery using our existing resources and staff.   If we need more specialist advice we will ask parents for permission for their child to have a more detailed assessment by an outside agency such as Speech and Language Therapy, Hearing and Visual Impairment, Southwark Educational Psychology Services or appropriate medical professionals.  We can then create personalised learning plans which set out any extra support or special programmes for your child.

If a child has a lot of additional learning needs, with parental/carer permission, we will apply to Southwark to request a EHC (Education, Health and Care) needs assessment.  If approved, the child will be given an EHC Plan and funding for the special support they need.  Parents will always be fully involved in the process and kept informed throughout.

If you have any questions or require further information about support for children with Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities at the Grove, please contact Sue Howlett.  Sue is the Assistant Headteacher and SENCo and is based at the Grove three days per week.
