On Windrush Day the chn learnt about the journey’s people made from the Caribbean to the UK to help rebuild it after the war. They looked at photos and read books about people’s experiences. They looked at a globe and saw how far people travelled. One parent saw her country’s flag on the bunting.
The children read that when Floella Benjamin came to England the children at school were not nice to her because of her skin colour. “It’s not nice they don’t play with her because she’s brown” “I tell them to be nice” “I say stop it” “I tell the teacher”
They then talked about their skin colour and their family members skin colour: “I have a white daddy and a brown mummy” “My sister colour is brown. I’m brown too” “My skin is white. Like my mummy and daddy’s” “I’m dark brown”
