The children were very interested in a walking map of the area around their Nursery School. They found where their houses were and how near they lived to their friends. They spotted bus stops, libraries, swimming pools and parks. It sparked lots and lots of conversation about their community.

“Have you been to my house?”
“I see a bus stop”
“I go to a library. There’s books”
“I go to the leisure centre. I go with mummy and daddy and my brother. I swim. It’s so big. I can’t go under water”
“He’s riding a bike. I like riding my bike”
“Claire, you come to my home with Stacey”
“I live on the corner. It’s in New Cross. That’s what my mum said”
“There’s some footprints”
“I come to nursery walking. My house is white”
“I go nursery pink bike”
“I go that way and that way and go to my home”
“Where’s my house?”
“That’s Burgess Park”
“I live far from nursery. I get here from walking so fast”

“I live on the moon. My mummy said that”
“That’s my house. I live with my mummy and daddy”
“I went to the library all day with my mum and sister”
“I saw you and Claudeth in Camberwell. We going park. It’s next to the hospital”
“Bike. More bike”
“Sometimes I go to the park with my dog. I cross the road and go to the park”
“Sometimes doggies can’t go in the park because the sign says no dogs in the park”
“We went this way and then that way and we crossed the road and my house was there”
